THE
SYNOPSIS OF THE STORY
The
story follows the Akinyele family, where patriarch Akinyele's strict rule
influences his son Folayemi's violent behaviour towards his wife. Folayemi's
son Dare becomes a bully, but with the help of a teacher, Mr. Taiwo, he changes
his ways. This transformation inspires Folayemi and Akinyele to also change,
breaking the cycle of violence and promoting a more peaceful family dynamic.
INHERITED VIOLENCE
Akinyele,
a strict and traditional man, married four wives and ruled his household with
an iron fist. His wives lived in fear of him, never daring to question his
orders or offer suggestions on his plans. He had 14 children, and his sons were
taught to emulate his authoritative behaviour.
As
a result, the men in the house became lazy, while the women did all the
household chores. The women were expected to serve the men, and the boys were
taught to rely on them for everything. This tradition was passed down through
generations, and Akinyele's sons grew up believing that it was their right to
be served.
One
of Akinyele's sons, Folayemi, moved to the town after getting married. He
married only one wife, Adunni, but his household was far from peaceful. Unlike
his father, who ruled with fear and charisma without resorting to violence,
Folayemi frequently beat Adunni for disobeying him. Their children, two boys
and two girls, grew up witnessing this violence.
The
eldest son, Dare, was particularly influenced by his father's behaviour. He
would often bully his sisters and other girls at school, and even his teachers
were afraid of him. When the school authorities discovered his behaviour, they
invited his parents to discuss the issue. Folayemi attended the meeting, but
his contribution only made things worse. The school labelled Dare and his
father as "birds of the same feather," implying that they shared the
same violent tendencies.
Akinyele
was shocked when he heard about Folayemi's behaviour and tried to intervene.
However, Folayemi argued that he was simply passing on the lessons he learned
from his father. Akinyele was devastated, realizing that his own behaviour had
contributed to the problems in his son's household.
Adunni's
parents tried to persuade her to leave Folayemi, but she seemed to have grown
accustomed to the abuse. She was threatened with violence if she ever tried to
leave, and so she stayed.

Dare's
behaviour continued to deteriorate until he met Uncle Taiwo, a new teacher at
his school. Mr. Taiwo was an economics teacher known for his discipline and
strong character. He took an interest in Dare and monitored his behaviour,
eventually discovering the root cause of his problems.
Through
counselling and guidance, Mr. Taiwo helped Dare to change his ways. Dare began
to respect his sisters and other girls at school, and his behaviour
improved
dramatically. Folayemi was surprised and grateful for the change in his son and
visited Mr. Taiwo to express his appreciation.
Inspired
by Dare's transformation, Folayemi began to reflect on his own behaviour. He
realized that his actions were destroying his children's future and decided to
change. He started treating Adunni with kindness and respect, and their
household became a more peaceful place.
Akinyele,
witnessing the positive changes in his son and grandson, decided to turn over a
new leaf. He began to rule his household with more empathy and understanding,
and his relationships with his wives and children improved.
As
a result of Dare's transformation, his sisters' husbands, who had married them
out of the family, treated them well because they were hardworking. However,
the male children, including Kolade, struggled in their personal lives until
they learned from Dare's transformation.
The
End.
